Positioning Web 1.0 and the blogosphere
Laura Pascual, Iñaki Agirre Perez
Continuing the study on " universities in the Basque-Navarre social networks "that we asked ourselves last week, today reviewed the overall web publishing, on the one hand, and publishing through blogs, and other universities.
Webometrics The data provided show a greater presence of the University of the Basque Country, followed by the University of Navarra.
If we compare the position data with the size in number of university students Basque-Navarre, we see a similar performance in the post web 1.0, a more or less linear. Slight performance highlights of the University of Deusto, which is even more remarkable, the composite indicator, we simply observe the size of the web publication of the institution.
In our opinion, the presence in the networks Social has little to do with the size of web publishing. An active policy of promotion of weblogs in the institution itself can increase the number of pages published, but in principle, the activities on social networking sites, micro-blogs or social labels serve to improve the visibility, popularity, ultimately the impact of the literature.
Looking at the relative visibility of the universities in the Webometrics ranking, we see that policy posts at the University of Navarra is paying off as it reaches to the University of the Basque Country (which promotes blogs, but excludes students).
However, these data are not endorsed by the indicator of visibility / popularity ranking of 4icu, in which the Basque Country University maintains its hegemony, and both the Public University of Navarra (which did not encourage or participate in blogs, social networks) and the University of Deusto, (which it does ) advance to the University of Navarra.
The Mondragon finally opted for the planet format to combine the posts the house with which they maintain their university on other platforms. In conclusion, we can only say that we must take these data with caution, because the measurement tools are not congruent.
For a complete picture, we offer here another measure of the popularity of blogs surchur taken at the time of the launch of the campaign to attract students. With due caution, it appears that private universities (Universidad de Deusto, University of Navarra and Mondragon Unibertsitatea) are making a greater effort.
